MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I have had a great time this year as your coach.  I hope you've enjoyed playing soccer this year.  I'm excited for the upcoming Indoor in February and look forward to seeing most of you then.  But for now ... have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!  See you in 2011 :)

Indoor Soccer ... are you going to play?

It's time to plan for Indoor Soccer.  I've looked into all the options that are available at the different locations around the valley.  Based on a combination of cost, schedule, and day of play for our age group, I've selected Ultimate Indoor in Woods Cross.  Here are the details.

Key info:

• Session starts mid-February and will end the week before outdoor starts (around 1st week of April).  They will adjust their schedule to match the outdoor schedule.
• Season is 8 games, plus a playoff possibly.
• Cost/team = $530 (includes ref fees).  8/team = $66.25 each, 10/team = $53.00 each.
• Depending on how many want to play we could put one or two teams together.  
• To field two teams we would need to recruit a few extra players.
• Location is Ultimate Indoor, 1877 W. 2425 S., Woods Cross, UT, http://www.ultimateindoor.com/

Other info:

• Style of play is indoor soccer, not futsal, so they play off the walls.
• A team consists of 5 field players + 1 goal keeper (plus subs).  We would need a min of 8/team and preferably 10.
• The field is an artificial turf surface, but they do not allow cleats.  
• You have to  wear "flats" (indoor shoes or tennis shoes) or turf shoes.
• Games will be played on Saturdays.  

We need to find out soon how many want to play, because we have to reserve our spot. So please reply to the email I sent or call me ASAP and let me know if you want to play.

Team BBQ moved to FRIDAY, Oct 22

Due to some schedule conflicts we are changing the Team BBQ from Tuesday to FRIDAY (October 22).  It will still be at the Pfeil's house in West Jordan (map).  We will be having a family scrimmage at 5:30 pm at a park near the Pfeil's home (I will get address info to you soon).  Then we will have the BBQ back at the Pfeil's house from 6:30-8:30.

Amazing Season!

Congratulations everyone on an amazing season this Fall!  Everyone should be proud of the way we played and the progress we've made as a team.  I was really impressed by the team today with their determination and effort to come from down 0-2 and take back the game for the win.  Great GAME!!  That was a nice way to finish off the season.  I hope everyone can make the BBQ on Tuesday.  Please try to be there.  If anyone needs a ride let me know and we will work them out.  Congratulations team and parents!
PS: I'll let everyone know what, if anything, results from the roster issue on game 9.

Practice Time Change

For the next 2 weeks our Tuesday practice at Kennedy will start at 5:30 pm and go to 7:00 pm.  It's getting dark earlier and with the 6:00 start it's getting too dark by the end of practice. We've just got 2 practices and 3 games to go to wrap up the fall game schedule.  See you Tuesday at 5:30!! 

Big Game Weekend!

Buckle down and hang on!  We play the 1st and 2nd place teams in the division this weekend.  Both games will be great tests to see how far we've come.  We beat Storm at their field last fall and then again this past summer in the USA tournament.  Between that and our current record, we've got a target on our backs and  I'm sure they're are going to be "out to get us".

Help your players get ready both physically and mentally.  Please make sure they eat well (energy rich foods), are properly hydrated, and get enough rest. With the games on back-to-back days, rest and replenishment is very important.  It should be an exciting weekend ... I'm looking forward to it!

Team work keeps getting better!

Another great game today team.  I'm excited to see us keep improving and continue to share the ball better as a team. Congratulations today to Jaydon for getting his first goal as a Razzia Falcon!  That's three games in a row with someone getting their first goal as a Falcon.  Zach H against WSC, Jace and Zach F against Impact, and today Jaydon against Blast.  Enjoy your weekend off and we'll see everyone at practice on Tuesday!

Uniform Washing Instructions

We just got these from Team Gear.  These are the instructions for washing our new uniforms:

• Cold wash inside out. Do not use bleach or softeners.
• Line dry in a warm and dry environment. Do not let the print fold on itself during the drying process.
• Do not tumble dry.
• After following the above instructions, please use the care label instructions on the garment.
• Always iron inside out. Do not use steam.

Great opening weekend!

What a great way to open our Fall season.  Two identical wins.  We let the other team score first both games, went into half-time with a 2-1 lead and finished with a 4-1 score.  One thing that I'm very happy with is the balance that we're showing.  In both games 4 different people scored which shows we are sharing the ball better and more people are getting involved.

Happy Labor Day Weekend

Excellent Scrimmage!

Great job today team!  I was very impressed today with improvements we've made since the tournament.  We showed improved spacing, improved vision and passing, and great teamwork.  Best of all everyone looked like they were having fun!  See you on Thursday.

Scrimmage with Razzia Girls U-14

Our scrimmage tomorrow (Tuesday Aug 31), starts at 6:00.  Please try to be there by 5:30 to warm-up.  I know that is a little early for some, if you are going to be late please let me know.  Wear your RED jersey and bring your white just in case.

Saturday Canceled and Tuesday Scrimmage

There will be no practice on Saturday.  Attendance on Saturdays has been very poor so I'm not going to force the issue.  But, everyone please plan to be to Tuesday's practice.  We will be having a scrimmage with the Razzia U14 girls team.  Kennedy @ 6:00 pm.  I'll find out what color to wear and let you know.

Practice Time & Location Change

Practice on Thursday (8/26) will be at Kennedy at 6:00 pm.  Please note that it is at KENNEDY not Bennion.  The league has asked for help painting the Kennedy field so some parents are going to help while we have practice.  That's why we changed location.

No Semi-Final game

Just a quick update ... Fusion 99 shut-out USA so they will finish with 21 points, HC Storm finished with 21, and we finished with 19.  So unfortunately, with 2 quality wins, we still don't make the semi final game.  I'm still really proud of our team and I think we played really well.  We'll see you all on Tuesday!

Tough Loss

Hey team ... great effort today.  I know everyone played hard and did your best.  I'm proud of the way you played in our first tournament ever!  Good work and keep your chins up.  Let's take everything we learned from this experience and make ourselves that much better for the upcoming season.  See you all at practice on Tuesday!

Another Great Game!

Another great tournament win.  Great play and teamwork from everyone!  Bryan's spinning left foot chip over the keeper was priceless!!  Now let's just hope the storm rains itself out before 5:30.  GO FALCONS!

Tuesday: 7:30 pm at Kennedy, meet to receive uniforms. 

Wednesday: 6:30 pm, Game 1 vs. USA Gold (field 2092)

Thursday: 8:30 am, Game 2 vs. HC Storm (field 2076), 5:30 pm Game 3 vs. Fusion 99 (field 2096)

Friday: 1:00 pm, Semi-final game (if we place 1st or 2nd in group) (field 2076/2081)

Rides: If your player needs a ride to any of the games PLEASE let me know tonight.  If you are planning to go to the games and can help with rides also let me know.  I can only take so many. :)

The USA tournament schedule has been posted.  As of right now these are the dates and times that we will be playing.  I'm checking with a few players about schedule conflicts and depending on responses may try to get some times changed for the Thursday games.  But, for now plan on the following...

  Game 1: Wed Aug 18, 6:30 pm, vs. USA Gold

  Game 2: Thur Aug 19, 8:30 am, vs HC Storm

  Game 3: Thur Aug 19, 12:00 noon, vs Fusion 99

  Semi-Final: Fri Aug 20, 11:45 am

If you can NOT make any of these game times please let me know ASAP (including the semi-final and final).

Also, Tuesday practice will move to Monday night at 7:00 pm at Bennion JH (note it is NOT  at Kennedy).  I will be picking up the uniforms on Monday and will bring them to practice.

Another Practice Game

This coming Tuesday we have another Practice game.  This one is against a Razzia U14 team.  Please be at Kennedy Jr High at 6:00 pm to warm-up.  We will start the scrimmage around 6:30 pm.

Also,  I challenged all the kids that they need to finish selling their Coupon Books before the Tournament (Aug 18).  I don't want this to drag on any longer than that.

Practice Game on Tuesday

This coming Tuesday (July 27) will not be a regular training session.  We are having a practice game (friendly) against the Fusion D1 team.  The game will be at the West Jordan Soccer Complex (7930 S 4000 W, West Jordan, UT).  Please be there at 6:30 pm to warm-up, we will start the game at 7:00 pm.  Park in the first parking lot just South of the Maverik.  We are planning to play on the field that is on the South side of the parking lot.  Wear your white jersey, if you are new to the team, wear your white Razzia shirt from tryouts.

Team Meeting

Hello everyone! I'm excited to get things kicked off for this new year. To get things started we will have a team meeting this coming Saturday, June 5, at 10:00 am at Hunter Park. The Park is located at approximately 3600 S 6000 W, West Valley City. We will be meeting at the picnic tables under the trees to the East of the tennis courts.

End of Year!

It's the end of the 2009/2010 season.  Thank you to everyone both parents and players.  I've really enjoyed being associated with all of you during this past year.  I've uploaded a bunch of pictures from some of our games this season and posted a slide show from the End of Year BBQ.  Below are some links to the photo galleries for the games from this Spring Season.

Thanks everyone for coming to the Family Scrimmage and BBQ tonight. It was a lot of fun and a great way to wrap up our year. I've really enjoyed coaching all of you this year and hope that you've enjoyed playing.

For those of you coming back to tryouts for next year we'll see you on Saturday and I look forward to a great year as we continue to get better.

For those of you choosing other paths thank you for the time you spent with us and best of luck in all you do. You will be missed. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing ... and if the mood strikes join us for tryouts in 2011 :)

Wahooo!!!

Great game today! I was very impressed with the improved level of play, increased cooperation, positive attitudes, great energy, and good ball movement. Too bad we couldn't hold out a few more minutes for the win ... but I'll take the tie!! Best of all ... I think every one had fun today! Great game Falcons!!

Practice in the Rain

Thanks to everyone that made it to practice today. We had a blast playing in the rain. See you at the game on Tuesday! Bring your rain gear ... it looks like it's supposed to be wet and a little cooler than today.

ARGH ... the one that got away!

Great game boys. I loved the improved passing and crosses. They led to more goal scoring opportunities and 5 awesome goals!! Special recognition to Ben for scoring his first goal ... that was exciting! We're getting better every game ... see you guys at practice on Thursday!

Monday Practices

As announced at the game today, we will start having Monday practices again. We will start at 5:30 and only go 1 hour, since we have games the next day on Tuesdays. See you Monday!

Missed it by "that much"!

Good game today ... things just didn't bounce our way. We had plenty of opportunities, we just didn't make them count. I especially liked Roberto's shot off the cross bar (would have liked it better 6 inches lower :) ... and Zach great save on the high ball!

We're close, we just need to keep working hard. See you all on Thursday at practice!

Practices moved to Thursday

I am moving our Wednesday practices to Thursday.  I wanted to make that change in order to space out our game and practice days .  We will also not have Monday practices unless we're struggling and I decide to add one in occasionally.  For those of you that this creates a conflict ... I apologize, please give me a call and let me know how we can help get your player to practice.

Thursday Practices will be from 5:30 - 7:00.  As always if you are not sure about a date or time, check the calendar below.

QUESTION: How many would prefer to have practice from 5:00 - 6:30 on Thursday?  If that would work for the majority I may shift to 5:00 start.

PS: I've heard rumors about conflicts with Scout Camps ... especially for our next Saturday game (April 17).  Please if any of you know your player will not be able to attend a specific game let me know ASAP.  If we have too many out we may need to request a reschedule.

Friday Practice

Our practice on Friday, April 9 will be from 5:00pm - 6:30pm.  Then don't forget our first game is this Saturday @ 12:30.  The location is NOT shown on the UYSA schedule, but I contacted the coach and the address is included in the calendar entry (see below).  It is in Ogden and we need you to be there 30 min early to warm up so plan accordingly.

Practice GAME

Just a reminder, our practice on Wednesday 4/7 is a PRACTICE GAME!! We need everyone to be there. Same time and place as usual, 5:30 at Kennedy. See you there!

Saturday Practice Time Change

On Saturday morning (3/20) we will be moving practice to 9:30-11:00. I also need a parent to cover the last 30 minutes of practice ... or we will end at 10:30. I have to leave at 10:30. A bunch told me they have Scout camp. Please email me and let me know who can't be there. Everyone else ... I'll see you Sat morning at 9:30!

Saturday Practice moved to Monday

Hey everybody I have a scheduling conflict on Saturday and the weather is not supposed to be very friendly. I am cancelling Saturday's practice (Mar 13). But, we will start holding regular Monday practices next week. So plan on 5:30-6:30 on Monday, Mar 15.

Practices Starting This Week!

Sorry for the short notice ... but I'd like to get practices started again.  Starting this week (March 3) we'll have practices on Wednesdays (5:30-7:00) and Saturdays (10:00-11:30).  In a couple of weeks we'll start adding a Monday practice.  I've updated the calendar (see below).  As always, if you can't be there I'd appreciate a phone call to let me know.

We haven't got a schedule yet for when games will start ... but I suspect they will start just after Easter.

President's Day Game!

I don't know about the rest of you ... but I have Spring Fever!

Assuming the weather holds as forecasted, the field at Kennedy Jr High should be clear of snow by Monday. I would like to get together and play a President's Day soccer game. This is just for fun so any siblings that are old enough to keep up or parents that would like to play would be welcome.

Plan on a 1:00 pm game time and we'll have a brief warm-up to get ready and then play. We'd probably be there until around 3:00 pm. Please reply to let me know if you are planning on coming or if you can't make it so I'll know how many are coming.

Spring Game Days

Tentative schedule for 2010 is posted on UYSA website. Assuming we move up to Division 2 as expected, our games will be scheduled on Tuesday nights and Saturdays at 10:30 am.

I hope you are all getting ready ... soccer season is quickly approaching!

I hope everyone is enjoying their winter activities! I'm still trying to find a facility where we could play some indoor/futsal occasionally. If anyone has any ideas let me know.
